In this excerpt from an 1865 newspaper, "Evening Star", multiple accounts of the shooting of Abraham Lincoln were were reported. The attack occurred only 5 days after General Robert E. Lee, leader of the Confederacy, surrendered to the Union. As students read, they should take note of the tone of the reports and discover whether or not President Lincoln was popular in the Northern United States. This test is for 8th grade students.
